“Votivelight” in bisque porcelain with Nativity engraved motif
Dimensions: Height 2.95" - Diameter 4.3"
Suggested Burning Time: Up to 6 hours
Made in Limoges, France
The Lithophane (Votivelight) is a traditional engraving technique on a fine bisque (non-glazed) porcelain that was invented in Limoges in 1828.
Bernardaud still uses this technique to craft beautiful votives that come in a wide variety of decor. The glow of the candle shines through the raised and carved surface of the votive, contrasting light against shadow and thus revealing a richly detailed design.
This item features the traditional Nativity Scene depicting Joseph, The Madonna and the Birth Of Christ.
Also included are the surrounding animals, the visiting Wise-Men / Kings bearing gifts, and the Guiding Star.
