    Description

This is a Porcelain Lithopane Votive Candle Holder by
Bernardaud Limoges (made in France) depicting designs of national monuments in
Washington D.C..  It measures 2-3/4" tall X 4-3/8" wide and is in perfect condition with no damage.  Bernardaud artists hand-sculpt fine bisque porcelain so the glow of a candle shines through the raised and carved surface to contrast light against shadow, revealing a richly detailed design of our national monuments.  The interplay of unglazed bisque porcelain and the molded relief images become visible as soon as a tea light is lit inside the votive.
I am including a new GE Flickering tea light (I removed it from its sealed package and replaced the batteries) to be used instead of a real votive candle (if you wish) to protect the porcelain from the heat.  Please examine my pictures carefully as they are the best descriptors.  Any questions, please email.  Thanks!
In the world of French art de vivre, Bernardaud is considered the symbol of elite refinement and luxury. A porcelain creation signed by Bernardaud is always appreciated and recognized the world over.
Bernardaud artisans use the same technique of hand-sculpting fine, bisque porcelain that was first demonstrated by French artist Paul de Bourgoing in 1828.
