Description
Maker: This beautiful and classically elegant covered vegetable bowl is by D & Co. L. Bernardaud, the renowned Limoges firm that has produced exceptional quality porcelain since 1863 and remains a major player in Limoges today.
On the reverse of the bowl are the green D & Co France white ware mark number 3 that was in use between 1894 and 1900 and the red L. Bernardaud decorator's mark number 3 that was in use from 1900 until the 1930s. That means this bowl was produced in or around 1900.
The red retailer's mark of Trawbridge & Clothier, the historic Philadelphia department store, also appears.
Design
: The pattern features a green Greek key band and gold encrusted handles against pure white porcelain. Replacements.com calls this pattern BER5.
Condition
: The bowl and its lid are in excellent condition with no marks, nicks, chips, cracks, scratches, crazing, stains or repairs. There are a few small spots of wear on the handles, several tiny dark spots created in the manufacturing process and embedded dirt on the inner rim; these can be seen in the photos.
Size
: The bowl is 8 3/4 inches long at the opening, 6 5/8 inches wide and 2 7/8 inches tall at the center. The bowl and lid together weigh 2 pounds.
