Description
It’s been a long time since these film cassettes were available, so I’ve started making replicas for users of Rollei and Edixa 16mm subminiature cameras. I’ve tested them in my own cameras and they seem to work exactly like the originals. That's not surprising since I made the molds from an original, including all the superficial cosmetic marks that my 60-year-old cassette has. But those don’t affect the function.I’ve only seen one of these original cassettes so I copied it exactly with one exception. I have not been able to duplicate the film holding fastener in the center of the spool, so you’ll have to use a small piece of tape. The original spool that I copied uses a small piece of black paper as a light baffle glued inside the cassette. I don’t know if that’s original, but I did the same thing. I’ve tested it and it works.
The first time I loaded a cassette for one of these cameras I realized that two simple tools would make film loading much easier, so I designed them and they are included with each cassette. The loading “ramp” ensures that the film will be exactly aligned with the spool, and it also makes it easy to align the tape on the spool. You can see this operation in the pictures. The second tool is a simple winding knob. It fits through the ramp and into the end of the film spool, allowing you to wind the film very quickly in perfect alignment. After just a little practice, I can now load a cassette in about 60 seconds.
At present, I am selling the kit which consists of:
Cassette body + cassette top + film spool
Loading ramp
Winding knob
If there is interest, I may make additional cassettes available separately. This price applies to these first kits; I may have to adjust it as I see how production goes.
No film or camera is included, of course, but an instruction sheet is. If you want to see it first, just contact me through eBay Messaging and I’ll email you a PDF of it.
Note: I make each one of these individually by hand, so they do have cosmetic flaws, but none that will affect their function. I pour liquid plastic into my own silicone rubber molds, so small bubbles, marks and sanding marks are inevitable.
Note to buyers outside the USA:
I ship free to eBay's international shipping service in Kentucky. After leaving there, they will be subject to an additional international shipping charge. And in most cases the destination country will add an import (customs) charge. These vary from country to country. For instance, my trimmers sent to Japan have no import charges, but when sent to Great Britain and France the import charges are almost as much as the item itself. I apologize in advance for this, but it is entirely beyond my control.
