Vintage Empire State Rochester Optical 11x14 Large Format Camera w/ Beck Lens
For your consideration: This is a nice 11x14 Empire State Rochester Optical Camera that includes the original extension rail,  Beck Lens and (2) 11x14 holders. This is a WORKING CAMERA; fully function-able for conventional photography, or to admire on a stand or "big" shelf!.
The Particulars:
Camera was a basket case when I received it. The bellows were rotted; the camera had some wood splitting issues, brass knobs were missing, rear standard brass carriage rivets were broken, the two plate holders were in pieces.
I made new bellows for the camera. The bellows are light tight and have a draw of 22-23 inches.  Because the  material
is thicker
, the bellows are shorter so the camera can fold up.
I replaced the broken brass base plate rivets, repaired and re-glued the damaged wood (10th image). The camera back shows some wood wear (5th picture on lower right), but nothing that would hinder operation; the holder fits as it should. I also replaced the missing knobs with ROC Empire State knobs from a parts camera that I had. Any missing screws were replaced with brass screws. Everything moves, works, and locks in place as it should. The glass back is all original. Because of the size and weight of the camera, front standard needs a little help getting past the hinge when retracted. This seems to be a common problem with the older large format cameras.
The camera comes with its extension rail - usually hard to come by and uncommon.
The R. J. Beck Lens is in nice condition with very minor separation on the extreme edges. The lens is a 16" focal length; 12 x 10 Rectilinear that covers 11x14 nicely. The lens accommodates waterhouse stops (non are included). The lens does come with its original front lens cap. The lens throws a nice image on the focus glass.
The two (2) 11x 14 holders have been repaired, and new dark slides have been made. There are two (2) 8x12 inserts that fit into the 11x14 holder. The holders are for glass, and if someone wanted to adapt them for film, it would be possible. I toyed with the idea of making a wet plate holder but wasn't sure as to the market for a large camera. The holders that come with it could be converted for wet plate if one desired.  The original holder dark slides were very fragile, I will include those with the camera. There is some wood that is chipped (see picture) but nothing that hinders operation.
I have tried to preserve the camera as much as possible. The only things replaced that are not period are the bellows, dark slides for the holders,  the bolts/nuts used to replace the missing rivets on the base, and whatever few screws that were missing.
The camera is sold AS IS; not new - not perfect - but a good working camera if one desired to use it, or put it on display. Please look at the pictures as they are part of the description. Please note that I do not offer partial refunds and I normally do not allow returns.
