ZEISS IKON Contessa 35mm Rangefinder Camera with Tessar Lens
Contessa, a compact high-quality 35mm folding camera made by Zeiss Ikon in Stuttgart, Germany, between 1951 and 1955. The camera in this auction is the type 533/24 (2. version) with the Synchro-Compur shutter which was made from 1953 to 1955.
Coupled rangefinder. The rangefinder uses the same precision technique as the Super Ikonta medium format cameras: a rigid, factory-aligned beam splitter located in the top of the camera body and two counter-rotating prisms attached to the lens to change the angle of the secondary reflected beam; this avoids coupling the lens position mechanically to the rangefinder which is a little bit tricky in a folding camera.

Zeiss-Opton Tessar 1:2.8 45mm lens in a flash synchronized Synchro-Compur shutter (B, 1 - 1/500 sec). External switch to select X (electronic flash) or M (flash bulb) contacts. Built-in dual-range uncoupled selenium meter. Lens serial number 941 592.
The camera is in good condition and is fully functional. Shutter works at all speeds (including the slow speeds), flash contact fires external flash. Focusing action is smooth. Rangefinder patch is bright with good vertical and horizontal (at infinity) overlap. Lens glass is clean, no signs of scratches, fungus, cleaning marks, etc. Amazingly, the selenium exposure meter is still functional.
Camera comes with a CD containing the scanned instruction manual and Zeiss Ikon catalogs with information on the Contessa.
